Rain's Thursday Art Date (hit that link!) is giving me great inspiration to apply what I'm learning in A Year With My Camera, a wonderful free online photography course. This week I'm combining Rain's theme of yellow with the lesson on tonal editing. My edits are made by tweaking shadows, mid-tones, and highlights. The originals are JPEG copies of RAW images before editing.

Beautiful, yellow photos, lee! Have a great day, Valerie
The second and third pictures series, I can very clearly see the impact of the change in tone. The first one is more difficult for me to perceive.
These are gorgeous shots Leigh
TB, I'm guessing subtle is probably best in most cases, unless it's an art project. The first one is basically higher contrast with more black in the background, which I like. Playing with the highlights brightened up the yellow. As will all images, it's all a matter of taste.
Thanks, Christine!
These are all beautiful and meet the theme perfectly. Have a lovely day.
Some nice ones. Have a lovely Thursday
Much💛love
gorgeous photos!
Nicole, I'm glad Rain picked colors for June, when flowers abound!
Gilena, thank you!
Thanks Linda!
Great yellow flowers. I think you've done some great digital toning. Happy weekend ahead. Hugs-Erika
These turned out great and I can see how much improvement you got from editing. Does it have to do with brigh8tness and contrast? I attempt that process in Photoshop, but i really like what you have done.
Wow, Leigh! I'm going to explore this photography course. Thank you so much for sharing it. Have a lovely weekend!
Elizabeth, I don't know what it's called in Photoshop, but in RawTherapee it's called "tone equalizer" or "tone curves." It's under the exposure settings and enables adjustment of shadows, mid-tones, and highlights individually. It's similar to the brightness and contrast controls in GIMP, but allows for a much broader range of subtle adjustments. I'm sure they have something similar in Photoshop.
Fundy Blue, I know you will enjoy the course! It's a fun way to learn a lot. :)
So, what did you use to tweak the photos ... The improvement is noticeable and sure brings out the yellow. Nice photo's and nice job ... and perfect for Rain's prompt. Sure enjoyed your post ...

Andrea, thank you! I'm using a program called RawTherapee. It's an open source free RAW image editor. This is all new territory for me, but thanks to the "A Year With My Camera" photography course, I'm learning lots of interesting and helpful things. Yes, Rain's TAD is a great prompt for experimenting with new skills!
Beautifully done Leigh! I love that you included before and after photos! The yellows look amazing the way you worked on the tones!!!
